It was reported previously that some mobile radiation detection stations in Canada were being taken offline. Paul Duchesne @ NRCan got back to me really quickly to explain why.

“Between March 19 and March 26, 2011, Natural Resources Canada deployed three mobile radiation survey systems to the west coast as a precautionary measure. Ground-based mobile surveys were conducted from 22nd to the 25th of March. Two units systems are being retained in the Victoria area should additional surveys be required. These units were deployed to complement Health Canada’s detection and monitoring network, which is composed of over 100 stations distributed across the country in strategic locations and large cities.”

I also spoke with a representative from Health Canada who told me “There’s over one hundred monitoring stations, Rick. I’m not going to provide you an entire list.”
